This week I got to spend a week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my family.
I love it way too much. I would love to spend a month or two out there to really go deep into painting. The house we stayed in was oceanfront, so sitting on the bottom deck at a picnic table facing the ocean was the perfect painting environment. You can hear the ocean and the wind keeps the bugs away. I am thinking about going there in the off season.
Basically I just did some abstracted painting and drawing responding to the beach around me, mostly to shells and sand. For some reason I was all about the unbleached titanium paint this week. Every page has layers and layers of it. I used a silicone spatula to spread it around and then I used pencils to draw/carve into it.
On the way home I managed to get to this annual bazaar and book sale that they have where I live. Tables and tables of used books to look through. I got some books to use for collaging. The best was a book I found about making bobbin lace. I have been gluing some of the pictures down into my sketchbook and then painting over top.
