Weeks 1 & 2
This new year has treated me well so far. I have felt inspired and renewed. I have been doing a bit of art each day. I have been very busy, though, and I haven't made time to post.
In addition to art journaling I have been painting onto linen recently. I'm most excited about adding sewing and embroidery to my paintings. I used to make freeform peyote stitch jewelry and I have missed it a lot. But even though I missed it I knew I didn't want to give it the time it takes. Now I feel I have merged the stitching and placement of trinkets from jewelry making with my love of painting, and some interesting things are coming out of it.
I may have overworked this one. See above, it was quite fresh, and below, it got moodier and more crowded. Learning when to release the painting is an ongoing process for me. No regrets, though. I had some things to to work out and to try. That's the fun part about documenting/photographing my art process, too. I always have shots of the different stages of the work.
I gathered all of my recent handmade sketchbooks for a project, and snapped these pictures. So many pages.
Some different binding patterns (all from Keith Smith instructions.)
