This is a small 6x6-inch mixed-media painting on gallery wrapped linen made with acrylic paint, gouache, graphite, painted cloth, broken costume jewelry, and embroidery threads.
This painting is part of a series of embroidered landscapes that means so much to me. I have a history of making stitched beaded jewelry with some found elements, like shells, buttons and fabrics, etc., and I also have a history of painting with many different materials. Recently these two techniques merged and I have been embroidering directly into my paintings. The result is these small but evocative landscapes that feel charged with the meaning.
