This is a small 6x6-inch mixed-media painting on gallery wrapped linen made with acrylic paint, gouache, graphite, cloth from a vintage hat, a worn handkerchief, some old jewelry, and sewn embroidery thread.
This painting is part of a series of embroidered landscapes that means so much to me. I have a history of making stitched beaded jewelry with some found elements, like shells, buttons and fabrics, etc., and I also have a history of painting with many different materials. Recently these two techniques merged and I have been embroidering directly into my paintings. The result is these small but evocative landscapes that feel charged with the meaning.
- Ready to hang on the wall
- A one-of-a-kind treasure
- The off-white fabric that is sewn on were flowers from a vintage hat that fell apart, the costume jewelry (fake diamonds) were from a broken necklace
- I made this with a landscape in mind, but it truly became an abstract piece. The line between the two is very thin in my opinion.
